“Xingu” opens the Festival

By Ingrid Coifman

BRAFFTV 2012 (Brazilian Film & Television Festival of Toronto) opening gala will bring Cao Hamburger’s Xingu to Bloor Hot Docs Cinema in the evening of October 11th. The story, which takes place in 1943, recounts the saga of three brothers set out into the center of the country seeking adventure. Armed with an insatiable curiosity, they befriend a village of Xingu Indians, and together they build an airstrip to bring modernity to this ancient place.

Also in the program, on October 11th, at 3pm, there will be a Master Class session at Ryerson University with São Paulo filmmaker Toni Venturi, who will present his film “Under The Table”, produced 25 years ago, when he was still a film student of that institution. His documentary is about the illegal immigrants from Latin America in Toronto.

On October 12th, at 4pm, the 2nd BRAFFtv Market will be presenting a special screening of five projects ‘Aimed to TV Sales from Brazil’. This year’s focus is on “TV Documentaries” and the session is only available for Canadian film and TV industry professionals.

The 5th edition of ‘Up to 3′, dedicated to movies and new media productions with a total length of 3 minutes, takes place on October 14th. On that same day, the 2nd edition of the ‘Brah-kah-zoo’ presents films produced by Brazilians who lived outside the country

Between sessions, the public can check out the ‘II Exhibition of Products and Services Brazilians’ in the hall of Carlton Cinema.
